Sample “kerosene-chalk”
The “chalk-kerosene” test method refers to capillary control methods and makes it possible to detect through defects. The method is used during the diagnostics of tanks: for seams between nozzles and the wall or seams of the bottom and wall.
It is carried out as follows:
- The object to be checked is wetted with kerosene.
- Next, the surface is thoroughly wiped and chalk is applied on top.
- After a few minutes, the chalk begins to darken in places of defects.
Before starting work, it is necessary to clean the surface of the object and provide two-sided access to the weld.
It should be noted that the sensitivity of the method decreases when testing welded joints located in all spatial positions other than the bottom one.
What information do I need to provide in order to order control?

- name of the material (steel grade);
- scope of control:
- for welded joints and tanks – length in running meters;
- for the base metal – area in square meters;
- whether there is a two-way access to the control object.
If you have any questions, please contact us – our specialists will advise you and tell you how to prepare for the control.
