Visual measuring control of pipelines
Visual-measuring control is one of the methods for checking the quality of a product. It is based on obtaining information about the state of the object through its visual assessment. Visual-measuring control is carried out in the first place, and only after the elimination of defects detected by means of the VMC, they begin to carry out other types of diagnostics (ultrasound, x-ray control).
VMC is used to diagnose various objects: metal structures, materials, welds and joints, pipelines. In the field of thermal power engineering, VMC is one of the most popular methods for quality control of pipelines, because it has the following advantages:
- ease of carrying out
- the ability to conduct research both with special equipment (microscope, magnifying glass, goniometer, ruler, templates), and without it
- relative cheapness of research
- ease of decoding the received data
- efficiency
- high information content
Thanks to the use of the VMC method, it is possible to identify such pipeline defects as cracks, chips, voids, gaps, shape changes, product geometry errors.
Visual and measuring control of welded joints of pipelines
Welded seams of pipelines are another object where the method of visual-measuring control has become widespread. Visual inspection must be carried out throughout the entire welding process: from the preparation of parts for welding to the finished weld. Through visual-measuring control, it is possible to detect various welding defects, which in the future can lead to breakage and shorten the life of the equipment. Among them: cracks, lack of penetration, voids, inhomogeneity of welding, displacements.
Of course, visual and measuring control can be carried out independently, because special complex equipment is not required. However, it is better to entrust such a study to professionals. It is important to correctly carry out the control procedure itself, correctly decipher the data received, correctly diagnose and determine the defect.
